If the contax is out of your proce range you can always pick up a mamiya 645 af, and buy the manual focus 80 f1.9, the mamiya doesnt handle or feel nearly as nice as the contax but it gets the job doneĪnd i would only suggest getting the af 645 over the older models because of the unreadability factor The rb is kinda big and heavy, the RZ is alot lighter and with the 110 f2.8 its very hand holdable. Sandy Phimester edited this topic ages ago. the prices are a bit high (relatively) for used units, but nothing I can't handle later this spring/summer. I'd mostly be doing natural light with it anyway (reflectors and scrims for control), but I definitely love studio work and using lighting on location too, 1/125th isn't bad I guess, I got used to syncing with the Mamiya at 1/400th, but I guess it's a sweet trade off to be able to shoot at 1/4000th with a film camera such as this.Įdit: Haha. Since most of my subjects are standing around anyway. I'm 99% interested in cameras for pictures of people, so lenses like an 80mm f/2 are really really exciting to me. I'd still keep the RB67, since it's my first true love with film, and it's such a beast with the 180mm lens attached! (amazing portraits).

Well I use the RB67 right now, but it's too big sometimes to lug around on serious shoots. if i wasn't so invested into leica i would get one, until then im using the rz 67 and loving it O and the only downside, is trying to find one, and since contax is out of business its very difficult to get serviced, but its an awesome camera. It has a focal plan shutter and the hgihest it goes to 1/4000th, and im pretty sure it sinks at 125thĪnd the af is slow, like with just about all mediam format cameras, but the view finder is big its easy to manual focus The contax 645 is an amazing camera, the 80f2 is totaly awesome I know I've posted a bit about which camera to get, but I think I've finally found the sweet spot with this baby. What is the sync speed on the camera? 1/125th? Or?Īnd what about the AF, is it one point? 3? And I've heard good things about the metering system in the prism finder, that would be so ace!

The lens choices are also interesting, I think I'd start with a 80mm f/2, as that's more of a general lens to me, but then I'd debate between the 120mm or the 140mm, probably strictly for tight head-shots when I want a lot more compression in the background.

I've been wondering about seeing some full size scans from this camera, can't find any to have a look at, just curious. I love MF too much, I know 645 is the smallest MF or smallest to shoot on 120 or 220 films, but I would assume it's "big enough" for most applications like portraits/weddings and fashion. back and forth, and so on, on which next camera I will buy. I've been going back and forth, back and forth.
